Magnetized Wraithguard

So I won a local tourney with the new Eldar Codex, and won these beautiful wraithguard.  With all the options they came with, I couldn't just glue 'em together, so I started figuring out how to magnetize them.  I used 1/8" x 1/32" magnets from kj magnetics.  This shot has most of the important stuff in it.  The right arm you can see, has a magnet that I have trimmed to match the size of his wrist.  The magnet was just larger than his wrist, as you can see on his left arm.  I didn't drill into the arm, just glued the magnet right in top of the wrist.  After I started taking pics, I realized that his left sword arm doesn't need the magnet.  Just glue the left sword arm to the sword.  Or magnetize it for different poses, you don't have any other weapon to put in the left melee arm.

The other impotant thing on this photo is the small finishing nails i used for his hand.  You can see a full nail next to a nail that I have trimmed ready to insert into a drilled out wrist.  Use a nice, new, sharp micro drill bit, and drill by hand.  A dremel will destroy the hand in no time.

Below you can see the wraithguard with a D scythe.  I just decided to put the head vanes and hip guards on with glue.  I like the look of them, and did't want to go crazy magnetizing every option.

Space Wolf Army

So I got everyone together for a family pic.  I need to figure out how many points there are all together.  There are 2000 just in terminators and drop pods.  I am going to airbrush the termies today, time permitting.
I am going to add a melta/plasma and regular guy to each of my grey hunter squads.  They were built for 5th, with a wolfguard with power fist in the squad. Also going to bring the blood claws up to 15 strong, with Lucas.  After the termies, I want to finish the thunder wolves, and get some actual Fenrisian wolves.

TDAWG Wolf Claw, Power Fist, Cyclone Missile Launcher
TDAWG Power Axe, Storm Shield
TDAWG Wolf Claw, Power Fist
Drop Pod

Squad 4
Long Fang Multi Melta
Long Fang Multi Melta
Long Fang Multi Melta
Long Fang Squad Leader
Logan Grimnar
TDAWG Wolf Claw, Storm Shield
Long Fang Multi Melta
Long Fang Multi Melta
(You can see I need more multi-meltas)

Squad 5
TDAWG Assault Cannon, Storm Shield
PAWG Combi-melta, Bolt Pistol
Rune Priest, TDA Chooser
PAWG Combi-melta, Bolt Pistol
TDAWG Storm Shield, Storm Bolter
TDAWG Chainfist, Stormbolter
Drop Pod

Group all together.  Pods need some work. Comes out to about 1996 points.  Logic was 2 shooty, 2 choppy squads.  2 Shields per squad, chainfist, and heavy weapon per squad.  With 2 Power Armor Wolf Guard, I could fit a rune priest and 5 wolf guard per pod, which means I could get a heavy weapon per squad.

Wolf Guard Terminators

I have been getting excited about an all Terminator Wolf Guard army.  I have about 50 terminators to be put together. I am magnetizing all of them to be able to change out weapon load-outs after trying them in battle.
Wolf claw and power fist adds 15 pts, for 48 pts.  He can choose initiative 4 ap3 attacks, or initiative 1 ap 2 attacks.  Both get +1 attack because the claw and fist are both specialist weapons.
A little overpriced for the hammer and shield, but he looks dang cool.
Only his left arm is magnetized.  Dark angel power sword arm there.
Power axe and shield.  Only 48 pts again.
I will get rid of the chaos star on the axe before painting.  I like the cleaver look though.

He has a claw back there.
Now only about 40 to go.
 Rune priest in Terminator armor.
Two claws-again not the best use of points, but looks cool.
They all will be airbrushed like this chap.  The cyclone is magnetized, but I will probably just glue them on in the future.

Wraithseer and lynx in Progress

Here are some projects I have been working on.  I still have some work to do on the wraithseer.  He has been a lot of fun to paint.  I started with a grey primer-a must for working with resin.  Then a cream colored spray paint.  I learned that when you get a good look with your airbrush, PUT IT DOWN.  I had a great fade from cream to brown on the wraithseer, and then wanted to add just a bit more, and ruined the whole effect.  After trying to recreate it, I was not quite as happy with the result.  Then I did a heavy gold drybrush across the whole thing, followed up by a wash of gryphon sepia.  I tried to draw attention to the face and gun barrel by making it almost white.  The spear needs some work, as does the base, and some touch-ups on the seer himself.

The lynx has only been airbrushed.  I like the blue/light blue effect I have going so far.  The sonic lance is magnetized to replace it with a pulsar whenever I get my hands on one.

Dang thing has a bend in the end.  I have warmed and bent it about 5 times, and have given up.  Same things on the vanes.  Warmed and bent them about 5 times, now I just put up with the bend.  Need a larger backdrop.

Eldar Avatar

This Avatar has been about 12 years in the making.  I got him to a decent base coat, and then left him for a long time.   When I bought him, he came on a square base.  I like how he turned out.  I have a few little things to do to finish him, but needed to post him.  Here he is.   The sword was airbrushed a little,  Yellow really doesn't cover anything.

Apocalypse Game

We had a great Horus Heresy Apocalypse game last weekend.  We had 6 guys with 3k per person.  We all set up across 3 tables, and then found out who was imperial, and who was Traitor.  Then the Imperials got 1 point for every unit that spent one whole turn on the central bastion, which was our "pick up zone".  The Traitors got one point for each unit completely destroyed.

We ruled that the unit had to be within 3 inches of the pad to be taken away.  I was playing my wolves.  The imperial side included my wolves, the Salamanders across from me, and the raven guard to my direct left.  The traitors ended up including the iron warriors (across and to the right) , Khorne, (across and to the left), and Imperial Fists(to my direct right).  We ended Imperial 25 to traitor 22.

 Great looking Storm Eagle.

I sent the vindicator, landraider full of blood claws, and the long fangs against the imperial fists.  The rest of the army raced for the teleporter, and I got most of them off of the planet.
The green termies above caused some major havoc amidst the Iron Warrior lines, destroying vindicators, defilers, rhinos, and a few other things.

The awesome, custom made throne of skulls caused some major damage, and that huge pizza plate kept dropping on our units around the evac pads.

About Me

My Photo
Flagstaff, AZ, United States
I have been collecting, painting and playing 40k since high school-1989. I started with Eldar, and currently have an Eldar, Tyranid, space wolves army, and Dark Eldar. I have started a couple others as well (which I will be selling to fund my son's new Blood angels army). Space Wolves have really captured my imagination lately, and I am getting excited to finish up the space vikings. A lot of that excitement has been usurped by the Dark Eldar. Muuuhaahaha
